The Persistence of Lighthouses

1. GUNFIRE HEADACHES

invariably we become blue
our heavy contours exposed
in a tide of wonders
those who leave us
how do they die?
how do we end up making sense
in them?

a luxuriance not to be commented on
by any means

2. DRUNKENNESS

in the infancy of screams
when they titillate at the uvula
a panicked beauty emerges
funneling through
glistening like a night-train
across barren air
pervasive ever trickling
like scents that are serendipitous
and itch the souvenir

this is what we must shed away
the tongues of others
the barren tundra of their appetite
severed from their silhouettes
riveting on palates
evolving with the license to insult
and defame
there is the crowd’s last effort
here is my grain

3. WEAK MEN, READ

sanctify my cravings
pull them from you in a visceral fling
ejecting matter like a zit or a sun
in kindred disasters
to ignite a timeless apathy

because the imagery is so thick
no knife can sever it from its source
and life is safe within this poem
it is decreed so
